Acquisition by Ellipse to build rugby product
Ellipse Data, the leading sports performance analysis company and owner of CricViz, has added Stuart Farmer Media Services Ltd, the world's leading rugby data business, to its impressive portfolio of companies. The acquisition is part of a major investment by Ellipse into a rugby analytics product that it expects to launch in early 2020.
SFMS founder and CEO Stuart Farmer said: "Having worked for almost thirty years to become the most trusted provider of rugby data to sports rights owners and broadcasters across the globe, my co-director and wife, Janet, and I felt that the time was right to really drive our statistics onto a new level. Stuart and Janet will both remain integral with the business and Rob Lowe, former head of operations at Opta will join the SFMS board.
Ellipse Data was founded in 2015 by Phil Oliver who was running Opta's cricket business and was later joined by Travis Basevi and Will Luke who were previously at ESPN and ESPNCricinfo. The company is backed by Opta founder Aidan Cooney, Venrex and a group of private investors.
